I wouldn't think the sensors were a problem, since I never had a problem going into the homebrew channel with the problematic wii remote until recently. My wii remote is the original model (RVL-003, RVL(F)-1), but it disconnects as soon as I go into the homebrew channel. My other wii remote, another original model, works just fine.
