In 2012, about twenty years after the mysterious disappearance of actor Julio Arenas on the seacoast while shooting a film titled The Farewell Gaze in the 1990s, a sensationalist television show revives the case, coming to involve film director and Arenas's close friend Miguel Garay, who talks to Julio's daughter Ana, the movie's editor and archivist Max, and mutual friend and lover Lola.

The film received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for being a good example of an engaging anthology film, for its cast (mainly Rivas), humour, cinematography, and music.
Fernando López of La Nación gave a positive review ("good"), writing that the "solid debut" film by Miguel Cohan featured "no gimmicks, no appeals to easy emotion, no sobering speeches, no underlinings", and "no manichaeism in the portrayal of characters", whereas the elaborate screenplay (perhaps "overly elaborate") deals with the likes of "guilt, hypocrisy, individualism, irresponsibility".
