.22 magnum (revolver) vs. .32 acp (.71 grai Mrserentity: I have seen the 22 magnum from a short barrelled derringer type (the old High Stnadard) nearly cut a guy in half. We used to carry these stange looking 'last ditch' 3 shooters in the magnum caliber for point blank 'kill-em and get their guns' uses.
Stocking up for SHTF obviously .22 LR is better. Not even a question there. People will complain about the cost of .22 WMR, but really how many shots are you going to take a year hunting with it? lets assume you shoot 100 shots a year with it. Around here CCI Maxi-Mags 40gr JHP are about 11-12 bucks a box. So for one year you have spent 24 dollars.
The .22 lr penetrated the most. Guess which penetrated least?.....The .22 mag! That's right, even the .22 short penetrated more than the .22 mag! Granted, the mini revolver was the 1 inch barrel model. I even called CCI and asked them about it. They told me the .22 mag was designed as a rifle cartridge and used a slow burning powder.
The bullet size of a .22 mag is ~.224 and the bullet size of the .22 LR, S, and L is ~.218. I assume the .22 LR cannot be fired out of the .22 Magnum cylinder due to the fact that the .22 LR is too narrow for a solid fit in the chamber. Is this the only reason? And this leads me to the second question: How, if the .22 mag bullet is larger than ...
The .22 magnum was never actually designed to be used in a handgun .HGunsmiths realized it did give some better velocities than standard .22 rimfire till velocitors and mini mags came out .now that being said my single six loves .22 magnum shells ,but is also accurate with rimfire just have to try alot of ammo .I carry a single six with the .22 ...
how effective is the 17HMR vs 22LR,22WMR,et Watch the language. We don't allow foul language on GBO. GB[/color] i live in santa cruz, bolivia and most people here have .22 LR rifles and hunt large animals with them, they kill jaguars, tapirs, deer , boar and other type of medium-biggame.
The 22 MRF was introduced as something with more power than the 22 LR. Later the 22 WMR came out and the MRF fell by the way side. Speed of the MRF is somewhere in the 1300-1400 fps I believe. There advantage is they can be carried when those times arise that you don't need the destructive power of the WMR and of course they are quieter.
I love my Ruger American .22 lr. BUT I find that it loves some ammunition more than others. Federal AutoMatch seems to be its best friend. In general it seems to do much better with non-plated rounds. I do love the factory trigger. I have found that you can use both .22Lr and .22 long but shorts have to be hand-fed which ain't easy. :
Have the ruger american predator model in 22 mag with GREEN stock and block buttstock with a simmons 3-9x32 rimfire s cope on it and like it. Accuracy is half moa with winchester 40gr HPS. havent tried any other ammo. Also have same rifle in 22 LR and I can get three shots almost touching at 50yards with a 4x power scope and CCI SV ammo.
A .22lr and .22 Magnum are not tactical rounds, so it isn't fair to compare them with a .223 The best round for 150 yards would be a .223, the other two rounds could reach that far but I wouldn't call that practical or humane for larger animales. The quietest round would be the one that is surpressed, or a subsonic .22lr round.
