Any of Accucraft's large-scale live steam geared locos -- to include the recently announced 13T Shay in 1:20.3 -- will need at an absolute minimum 4' radius curves (per their web site). Forcing the loco through a curve tighter than that will cause at best premature wear and at worst damage to the line shaft and universal joints.
Thanks for your thoughts on the burner, interestingly enough, my RTR Shay came with a #8 jet. Reading the build thread here, it seems the kit being built came with a #5 or a 4?. Odd. You also say the kit comes with 3 smoke box holes? As Pete said, mine has one. And BTW, the description of the loco on Live Steam Station says it has two safety ...

Assuming that I am controlling a live steam locomotive manually, from the inside of the track, so that I can cut across the middle should I need to, the last thing that I need are tracks across the centre of the layout. I happened to be on the new "Live Steam Station" website that Accucraft and their business partners have created, and looked at the GP 60 diesel. One thing I want to note, I do believe the Ruby's operating pressure is 40PSI, so a pop valve should be 40PSI for this loco. There is a "Safety Valve, Ruby" on Live Steam Station preset to 40PSI and has a M10 thread, so you'd be set with that. Best, Mike
