ATSF was the only railroad to order the B40-8W, and a B unit (cabless booster unit) was almost made with it, but because the price would have been the same for B40-8Ws with cabs or without, they decided to order units with cabs only. [citation needed] All of ATSF's B40-8Ws were passed on to BNSF Railway, with some later sold to other railroads.
The interior can sleep up to four people and includes a living room, kitchen, master bedroom and bath. The cab has been restored to the current BNSF Railway specification for new and re-manufactured locomotives. It is the only locomotive in the world that has been converted to luxury living space available for rent.

The GE Dash 8-40B (or B40-8) is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation between 1988 and 1989. It is part of the GE Dash 8 Series of freight locomotives. A total of 151 examples of this locomotive were built for North American railroads. The GE Dash 8-40BW (B40-8W) is a variant fitted with a full-width cab.

The GE AC44C6M is an AC-traction 4,400-horsepower (3,300 kW) diesel locomotive, rebuilt from GE Transportation Dash 9 locomotives. AC44C6M rebuilds have been done by GE (now Wabtec), American Motive Power, Inc., and Norfolk Southern Railway's Juniata and Roanoke Shops, starting in September 2015.
