The 2024 United States Senate election in Florida was held on November 5, 2024, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Florida. Incumbent Republican Senator Rick Scott won re-election to a second term, defeating Democratic nominee Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. The primary election was held on August 20, 2024. [1]
In the realigning 1860 election, Florida was one of the ten slave states that did not provide ballot access to the Republican nominee, Abraham Lincoln. [3] John C. Breckinridge emerged victorious, winning 62.23% of the vote. [4] Shortly after the 1860 election, Florida seceded from the Union and became a part of the Confederacy. [5]
In this election, Florida voted 7.8 points right of the nation as a whole, the furthest it has voted from the nation since 1988, when the state voted 14.6 points right of the national result. As of the 2024 presidential election, this was the only election in which Florida backed the losing candidate since 1992.
