Allegan County (/ ˈ æ l ə ɡ ən / AL-ə-gən) is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 120,502. [2] The county seat is Allegan. [3] The name was coined by Henry Rowe Schoolcraft to sound like a Native American word. [1]

The Rabbit River in Wayland. The Rabbit River is a 62.1-mile-long (99.9 km) [1] tributary of the Kalamazoo River within Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan.The river's watershed covers 187,200 acres (758 km 2) of land and drains most of north-central and northeast Allegan County as well as small portions of Barry, Kent and Ottawa counties.
