Elroy M. Avery's personal collection of over 1,000 books was used to help establish the Avery Library and Historical Society on April 10, 1920 (which became the New Port Richey Public Library and West Pasco Historical Society Museum and Library). [2] [3] The West Pasco Historical Society was formed in 1973.
The company was incorporated in 1906 by Charles B. Hatfield, Sr. in Cortland, New York. Variously calling the car the "Buggyabout" and "Unique", it was a high wheeler with an air-cooled two-cylinder four-stroke engine, friction transmission, and chain drive. It offered solid rubber tires on large wheels (38 in {96.5 cm} front, 40 in {102 cm} back).
In 1924, Avery also published a local history text, "The Genesis of New Port Richey," to be included in the library's collection. [4] Originally, the library charged patrons $1 a year for borrowing privileges. In the 1960s, the library was renamed to reflect the change of ownership to New Port Richey and the usage fee was dropped. [5]
The Pasco County Library Cooperative was once known as the Pasco County Library System. It was established on July 22, 1980. There were municipal-owned and operated libraries in three different cities: Dade City, New Port Richey, and Zephyrhills. [4]
