A'Hearn and Cherney developed a “back room” brewery behind the shop, and in 1996, Ballast Point Brewing was born. The company takes its name from Ballast Point, a historically important site on San Diego Bay in Point Loma. By 2004, Ballast Point had outgrown its back room location and moved into a larger production brewery in Scripps Ranch.
It was sold to brewing conglomerate Molson Coors in 2015 and run as a subsidiary under the Tenth & Blake group. In January 2022, Molson Coors Beverage Company announced that it would stop production of the Saint Archer brand and sell its San Diego–based brewery and taproom to Kings & Convicts Brewing Co., which owns the Ballast Point brand. Baderbräu Brewing Company. In 2012 they revived Baderbräu beer, [512] which initially was contract brewed at the Stevens Point Brewery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Edge Brewing Company, 525 N. Steelhead Way, will close after a final day July 3. Western Collective, a Garden City brewery at 111 W. 33rd St., has purchased the Edge brand.
In June 2017, San Diego–based brewery Ballast Point opened their East Coast facility and Tap Room in the Botetourt Center at Greenfield. Beer production began in September 2017, with the first keg of the company's well-known Grapefruit Sculpin beer being sent to the office of then Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe in Richmond.
