The union was founded in 1982 with the merger of several smaller healthcare unions, the largest of which was the Finnish Union of Nurses. It affiliated to Confederation of Salaried Employees (TVK), but TVK went bankrupt in 1992, and the union transferred to the Finnish Confederation of Professionals. By 1998, it had 117,200 members. The Finnish Union of Practical Nurses (SuPer, Finnish: Suomen lähi- ja perushoitajaliitto SuPer, Swedish: Finlands närvårdar- och primärskötarförbund SuPer) is a trade union in Finland. The union was founded in 1948, and soon affiliated to the Confederation of Salaried Employees (TVK).
The quality of service in Finnish healthcare is considered to be good; according to a survey published by the European Commission in 2000, Finland belongs to the top five countries in satisfaction: 88% of Finnish respondents were satisfied, compared with the EU average of 71%.
