Reseda odorata is a species of flowering plant in the reseda family known by many common names, including garden mignonette [1] [2] and common mignonette.It is probably native to the Mediterranean Basin, but it can sometimes be found growing in the wild as an introduced species in many parts of the world. Reseda / r ɪ ˈ s iː d ə /, [1] also known as the mignonette / ˌ m ɪ n j ə ˈ n ɛ t /, [2] is a genus of fragrant herbaceous plants native to Europe, southwest Asia and North Africa, from the Canary Islands and Iberia east to northwest India.
Pontia helice, the meadow white, is a butterfly in the family Pieridae. It is found in southern Africa. [1] Wingspan is 35–40 mm in males and 37–43 mm in females. Flight period is year-round. [2] The larvae feed on Heliophila species, Lobularia maritima, Lepidum capense, Rapistrum rugosum, and Reseda odorata. [2]
Phylogenetic analyses based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and trnL-trnF show that Reseda minoica is the ancestor of R. odorata. [3] R. odorata is among the earliest known sources of perfume and has been commercially cultivated since Ancient Roman times. [2] It is still one of the most common ingredients in the cosmetics industry. [5]

Owl butterflies are very large, 65–200 mm (2.6–7.9 in), and fly only a few meters at a time, so avian predators have little difficulty in following them to their settling place. However, the butterflies preferentially fly in dusk, when few avian predators are around. [ 1 ]
