Sunlake is one of the few high schools in the county that offer a dual-enrollment English class. [3] It also offers a complete set of Advanced Placement (AP) classes in the social studies field, beginning with AP Human Geography in 9th grade, AP World History in 10th, AP US History in 11th, AP Microeconomics and AP Government in 12th grade.
This was discontinued in 2007, when Sunlake High School opened. [4] [9] The class of 2008 was the largest in the school's history, with nearly 600 graduates. Ric Mellin, formerly the principal of J.W. Mitchell High School, became Land O' Lakes' sixth principal in March 2009.

The earliest high school boys' state championship in New York was held in 1921 as a single-class tournament. The tournament continued as a one-classification competition through 1929, then as a two-classification (A and B) competition from 1930 through 1932. After the 1932 tournament, the NYSPHSAA voted against continuing the competition. [4]
