The Tulsa metropolitan area, officially defined as the Tulsa metropolitan statistical area is a metropolis in northeastern Oklahoma centered around the city of Tulsa and encompassing Tulsa, Rogers, Wagoner, Osage, Creek, Okmulgee and Pawnee counties. It had a population of 1,044,757 according to the 2023 U.S. census estimates.
The route runs along the west side of the city, intersecting U.S. Highway 64 and briefly concurring with US-62. US-69 then crosses the Arkansas River into Wagoner County. Shortly after entering the county, the highway has an interchange with the Muskogee Turnpike, northeast of Tullahassee. In Wagoner, US-69 meets SH-51. It then enters Mayes County.
Holmes Peak, north of the city, is the tallest point in the Tulsa Metro area at 1,360 ft (415 m) [42] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 186.8 square miles (484 km 2), of which 182.6 square miles (473 km 2) is land and 4.2 square miles (11 km 2) (2.24%) is water.
