The Seaboard Coast Line Railroad (reporting mark SCL) was a Class I railroad company operating in the Southeastern United States beginning in 1967. Its passenger operations were taken over by Amtrak in 1971. Eventually, the railroad was merged with its affiliate lines to create the Seaboard System in 1983.
Amtrak operates a fleet of 2,142 railway cars and 425 locomotives for revenue runs and service, collectively called rolling stock.Notable examples include the GE Genesis and Siemens Charger diesel locomotives, the Siemens ACS-64 electric locomotive, the Amfleet series of single-level passenger cars, the Superliner series of double-decker passenger cars, and 20 Acela Express high-speed trainsets.
The rebuilt locomotives saw service throughout the system, engaging in a variety of duties from local switching to main-line freight hauling. Though SCL became part of CSX in the 1980s, the majority of the units remained active until 1992, when the bulk of the roster was retired and sold-off.
The SCL became the Seaboard System in 1983 and CSX Transportation in 1986. CSX sold both lines to RailTex subsidiary South Carolina Central railroad on December 1, 1987. [4] This gave the SCC two disconnected tracks, one running from Cheraw to Society Hill, 12 miles (19 km), and a second line from Florence to Bishopville, 42.4 miles (68.2 km). [2]

The GE U36B is a four-axle 3,600 hp (2.7 MW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive produced by General Electric from 1969 to 1974.
