University of Rajasthan is a public and state university in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India and is one of the oldest universities in the state. It was set up on 8 January 1947 as the University of Rajasthan in 1956.

History. The University of Rajasthan was established by an act of legislature on 8 January 1947. The library was created later on, after the availability of a small annex in the same compound in 1949. Jaipur National University came into existence in the year 2007. Two professional institutes of the Seedling Academy, established in 2002, with several technical and professional programs of studies, were re-branded as a university. The University Commerce College is one of the biggest in Rajasthan, with more than 4,000 students. Apart from traditional courses like B. Com (Pass Course) and B.Com (Hons.) the College has gained prominence in recent years in running professional courses - BBA and BCA.
It was established in 1844 as Maharaja's School by Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Ram Singh II, along with Pandit Shivdeen, who also became its first principal.Originally affiliated with University of Calcutta,and subsequently with University of Allahabad in 1890, the college went on to become one of six constituent colleges of University of Rajasthan, established in 1947.
