The Pueblo of Laguna, New Mexico (Western Keres: Kawaika [kʰɑwɑjkʰɑ]) is a federally recognized tribe of Native American Pueblo people in west-central New Mexico, near the city of Albuquerque, in the United States. Part of the Laguna territory is included in the Albuquerque metropolitan area, chiefly around Laguna's Route 66 Resort and Casino.
Laguna is a census-designated place (CDP) on the Laguna Pueblo in Cibola County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,241 at the 2010 census. [4] It is located approximately 47 miles west of Albuquerque. Laguna was founded in 1699, making it the most recent of the New Mexican pueblos. The people of Laguna Pueblo speak Western Keresan.
The 2010 census found that 2,456 people lived in the CDP, [4] while 3,519 people in the U.S. reported being exclusively Santo Domingo Puebloan [14] and 4,430 people reported being Santo Domingo Puebloan exclusively or in combination with another group.
