I'm trying to record a video using the webcam of my laptop with the windows camera app. I get the message that I should change my privacy settings for the camera app to be able to use microphone while recording. The privacy settings for the camera app are set correctly (access to the microphone is activated).

Turning off the monitor on a desktop computer shouldn't affect the webcam recording. Are you using a USB or an in-built webcam? You could see if resetting the Camera app helps: - Click Start and type "apps & features". - Select Apps & Features. - Find the app in the list and select it. - Click Advanced Options - Click Reset.
I am able to record video with sound and take pictures with the webcam that came with my computer, but it is of poor quality. What is the make/model of your PC and webcam that you are currently attempting to record with? Additionally what version of Windows Vista are you running? (Home, Basic, Ultimate etc) You can use Windows Movie Maker to make videos on your machine included in all current verions of Windows.
