KNSD's logo as NBC 7/39, variations of which were used from January 1, 1997, to August 9, 2010.. On June 27, 1977, in the wake of its new success as the highest-rated television network in America, ABC moved its San Diego affiliation from KCST to KGTV, causing an affiliation swap that ended with KCST taking the NBC affiliation formerly held by KGTV.
Fortner's work in the San Diego TV market included stints at XETV-TV Channel 6 during that station's initial attempts at creating a news department. He later moved to KNSD-39 and had a talk radio show during that time at KSDO (AM). In the early 1970s he and Tuck anchored The Tuck and Fortner Report on San Francisco's KTVU-2.
Before joining the CBS duopoly, Greene had a television news career, mostly in Southern California. Greene began his career in 1970 as a reporter and producer for KABC-TV in Los Angeles. Later in 1973, Greene was hired to help launch the news operations for KCST-TV (now KNSD) which at the time became the new ABC affiliate for San Diego. [1]
