United Hospital Center is the result of a merger between St. Mary’s and Union Protestant hospitals in 1970. In 1960, West Virginia University opened a tertiary care teaching hospital as a component of the medical center of the university.
United Hospital, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, is a 556-bed non-profit hospital that serves St. Paul and the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. United Hospital is part of Allina Health and offers specialty services including pregnancy care, birth center, behavioral health, cancer care, heart and vascular services, orthopedics and neuroscience.
In 1966, the hospital was founded as a community institution under the name Cafritz Memorial Hospital but after eight years became Greater Southeast. [3] After two bankruptcies, the hospital was acquired by for-profit operator Specialty Hospitals of America in 2008 and renamed United Medical Center.
The hospital was founded as Newark City Hospital, which first opened on September 4, 1882 with 25 beds. [6] The College of the Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey assumed operation of the hospital from the City in 1968 following the civil unrest of 1967 and renamed the entire complex Martland Hospital as part of an agreement with the City of Newark. [7]
