California had PA specialty training programs in the 70s to early 80s: Ortho, Emergency Medicine, Women's health and Allergy. I know one OPA, who later went through a Primary Care program, graduated and got her C. Others took the PANCE until the NCCPA made graduation from an accredited program a requirement.
Recently I have applied to schools that are offering a PA certificate. Some of the past discussions on this topic are from 2013. I know that most schools are gearing towards awarding students with a Masters. However, with a PA certificate, are there any repercussions with trying to find a job after graduation.
Posted April 2, 2014. Hmmm. It depends. If you want psychiatry, then PMHNP, no questions asked. You will get better training (yes, I know some PAs will howl at this, but there is no denying that a psych NP gets way more psych training than a PA).

Rural health clinics require a NP or PA to be present 50% of the time the doors are open and they both require physician oversight/chart review. This doesn’t mean cosigning just assurance of proper chart documentation through regular chart reviews. In the hospital again NP’s and PA’s are equal.
