Magenta is variously defined as a purplish-red, reddish-purple, or a mauvish–crimson color. On color wheels of the RGB and CMY color models, it is located midway between red and blue, opposite green. Complements of magenta are evoked by light having a spectrum dominated by energy with a wavelength of roughly 500–530 nm.
In the traditional RYB color model, the complementary color pairs are red – green, yellow – purple, and blue – orange. Opponent process theory suggests that the most contrasting color pairs are red–green and blue–yellow. The black - white color pair is common to all the above theories.
Red (RGB), RGB red, or electric red[citation needed] (as opposed to pigment red, shown below) is the brightest possible red that can be reproduced on a computer monitor. This color is an approximation of an orangish red spectral color. It is one of the three primary colors of light in the RGB color model, along with green and blue.

Color theory, or more specifically traditional color theory, is the historical body of knowledge describing the behavior of colors, namely in color mixing, color contrast effects, color harmony, color schemes and color symbolism. [1] Modern color theory is generally referred to as Color science. While there is no clear distinction in scope ...
A 1908 color wheel with red, green, and violet "plus colors" and magenta, yellow, and cyan blue "minus colors". The typical artists' paint or pigment color wheel includes the blue, red, and yellow primary colors. The corresponding secondary colors are green, orange, and violet or purple.
A RYB color wheel with tertiary colors described under the modern definition. RYB is a subtractive mixing color model, used to estimate the mixing of pigments (e.g. paint) in traditional color theory, with primary colors red, yellow, and blue. The secondary colors are green, purple, and orange as demonstrated here: red.
Newton originally divided the spectrum into six named colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. He later added indigo as the seventh color since he believed that seven was a perfect number as derived from the ancient Greek sophists , of there being a connection between the colors, the musical notes, the known objects in the Solar ...
