Scariest movie of all time for me is Hereditary though, hands down. Absolutely terrifying, and has the added benefit of being refreshingly unique for a genre that can feel somewhat stale at times. Reply reply
Some middle ground movies to check out, these are a bit more gory but all very disturbing “The Woman” (2011), its sequel “Darlin” (2019) “Raw” (2017) If you’re in the mood for sheer depravity aren’t overly concerned about the quality of the movie both “Trauma” (2017) and “Grotesque” (2011) are horrific watches.
Edit 1: I forgot to mention, I still see The Exorcist on "scariest movies of all time" lists on various websites, and on this sub, quite often. That's what brought this whole thought up in the first place, someone here asked for recommendations of the scariest movies around, and surprisingly the most recommended movie in the comments was The ...
Same. The Descent and final sequence of REC (Spanish version) were the only movies to make me feel actual dread, not just discomfort. I'm a huge horror fan and actively chase those extreme feelings of tension and suspense, but these two made me feel that even after the movies finished.
Psycho, Halloween, and The Shining are in the top 10, so I’ll give you that. Some of the movies you ranked #11 to 20 would make it in my own top #10. Regardless, it’s not a bad list, and most of the movies you listed are actually quite good.
I am fed up with being bored and underwhelmed with horror movies. Please tell me some of the scariest films you've seen and why they scared you. I won't judge if the film is full of jumpscares You guys were amazing the other day with good anthologies to watch, and i'm really grateful and looking forward to seeing what you horror fans can come ...
The Exorcist still has the scariest monster/demon of all time though, Linda Blair looks terrifying and nothing has come close imo, still traumatized lol. Deadite Mia in the Evil Dead (2013) is pretty fucking creepy as well
I wouldn't even consider these to be the scariest movies of all time, but they were filled with more than enough dread to keep me on the edge of my seat and I highly recommend you giving them a chance (assuming you haven't seen these): -Haunting of Hill House (the Netflix series). Without question the scariest show I've personally ever watched.
I have just discovered the wonders of tubi. There are so many horror movies on there. They have really popular ones, and many hidden gems. If you have suggestions for any good movies on tubi, please let me know. I am open to all movies, no matter the budget, age, or language, as long as you think they are worth watching. Thanks.
Hocus Pocus 2 - Truly the scariest horror film of the year. It was brave of the actresses to play witches obsessed with youth now that they’re getting up there in age, but I still thought it was in poor taste for the prosthetics department to try to make them look literally 400 years old.
