A small, typically knob, handle is affixed to the bolt to aid grip.
The doors are about 130 years old, made from oak and are heritage protected. I am a carpenter and my job was to restore them, rebuild missing parts and treat the surface. I hope I did them justice.
A pentagon screw drive uses five-sided fastener heads, and the fastener is known as a penta screw or penta bolt. It is designed to be intrinsically incompatible with many tools. Since five is an odd number, it cannot be turned by open-end or adjustable wrenches, which have parallel faces (and thus require a fastener with an even number of sides).
Where a fastener forms its own thread in the component being fastened, it is called a screw. [3] This is most obviously so when the thread is tapered (i.e. traditional wood screws), precluding the use of a nut, [3] or when a sheet metal screw or other thread-forming screw is used. A screw must always be turned to assemble the joint.
