Loring Hall Cinema (known commonly as Loring Hall) is a historic building located in downtown Hingham, Massachusetts.The cinema was originally opened in 1852 [1] as a meeting hall with the intent to provide the town with a suitable building for lectures, picnics, and social meetings of all kinds. [2]
It is one of the few remaining movie theaters, if not the only one, to use a rear-projection system; the projector is located behind the screen rather than behind the audience. The Brattle Theatre mainly screens a mixture of foreign, independent, and classic films, and began showing repertory and foreign films in February 1953.
The company was founded by Michael Redstone in 1936 in the Boston suburb of Dedham as Northeast Theater Corporation, operating a chain of movie theaters in the region. In 1959, when the founder's son Sumner Redstone joined the company, it was renamed National Amusements, the present name.
Cinemark operates 499 theaters and 5,680 screens in the U.S. and Latin America as of September 30, 2024. It is also the largest movie theater chain in Brazil, with a 30 percent market share. [4] Cinemark operates theaters under several brands, including its flagship Cinemark, Century Theatres, Tinseltown, CinéArts and Rave Cinemas. [5]
Out of the 20,000 movie palaces entertaining America in 1920, the National Trust for Historic Preservation estimates that less than 250 remain. Up until January 2014, the Cabot maintained a grand tradition of elegant movie-going and live stage entertainment thanks to the Cabot's founding director Marco the Magi (Cesareo Pelaez, 1932 - 2012).
