Snowmass Mountain is a 14,101.7-foot-high (4,298.2 m) mountain in the U.S. state of Colorado, and the thirty-fourth highest mountain peak in the state.Located in the Elk Mountains within the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness of the White River National Forest, it lies along the border between Pitkin and Gunnison counties, west of Aspen and southwest of the town of Snowmass Village.
Snowmass is a ski resort located in the Town of Snowmass Village near Aspen, Colorado. The ski area is owned and operated by the Aspen Skiing Company as part of the Aspen/Snowmass complex. It was opened on December 17, 1967 . [1] Snowmass is the largest of the four Aspen/Snowmass mountains, comprising 3,362 acres (1,361 ha).
The route used to climb Snowmass Peak is the Trail Rider Pass trail to Hagerman Peak. This trail can be accessed by Snowmass Creek approach off Divide Road Snowmass Village or the Geneva Lake trail. It is possible to reach the summit between Hagerman Peak and Snowmass Mountain , but is much more difficult.
The Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness is a U.S. Wilderness Area located in the Elk Mountains of central Colorado. The 181,535-acre (734.65 km 2 ) wilderness was established in 1980 in the Gunnison and White River national forests.
The forest contains 1,900 mi. (3,058 km) of forest system roads, 2,500 mi (4,023 km) of trails, and the Dillon, Green Mountain, Ruedi, and Homestake reservoirs. The forest is managed from Forest Service offices in Glenwood Springs .

It shares the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness with the White River and San Isabel National Forests, and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area with the San Isabel National Forest. The forest was created by Theodore Roosevelt on June 13, 1905 as the Cochetopa Forest Reserve, and named after explorer John W. Gunnison.
SR 188 crossing at Roosevelt Lake. The route, also known as Apache Trail at its southern end, starts at U.S. Route 60 in Globe, just north of Claypool, and runs generally northwest to a junction with State Route 288, then continues alongside Roosevelt Lake.
