As of the 2000 census , the MSA had a population of 90,565 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 96,250).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 518 square miles (1,340 km 2), of which 510 sq mi (1,300 km 2) are land and 8.6 sq mi (22 km 2) (1.7%) are covered by water. [ 7 ] The northern third of Floyd County is located in the Oostanaula River sub-basin of the ACT River Basin (Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin).
