The B&O Railroad Museum is a museum and historic railway station exhibiting historic railroad equipment in Baltimore, Maryland.The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) company originally opened the museum on July 4, 1953, with the name of the Baltimore & Ohio Transportation Museum.

When construction began on the B&O in the 1820s, railroad engineering was in its infancy. Unsure exactly which materials would suffice, the B&O erred on the side of sturdiness and built many of its early structures of granite.

In 1925 the B&O was one of the buyers of the first model of diesel locomotive, of which CNJ 1000 was the first example. These were used as yard engines in areas where smoke abatement led to restrictions or bans on the use of steam.
The museum was operated by the B&O Railroad Museum with Howard County from 2006 to 2017. [8] Since September 2017, the museum has been managed by Howard County's Department of Recreation & Parks. No. 4500 operated on the B&O's Ohio Division mainly hauling freight until it was retired from service in 1957, and it was donated to the B&O Railroad Museum in 1960 where it is placed on static display today.
