A Rzeppa-type CV joint. A constant-velocity joint (also called a CV joint and homokinetic joint) is a mechanical coupling which allows the shafts to rotate freely (without an appreciable increase in friction or backlash) and compensates for the angle between the two shafts, within a certain range, to maintain the same velocity.
The CVs are located in metal enclosures attached to the axle housings; there are no rubber CV boots that may be cut or punctured when off-roading. A beam axle is space-efficient, an important advantage for off-road applications, as it provides better vehicle articulation and durability in a high-load environment.

It consists of a flexible joint fixed to each shaft. The two joints are connected by a third shaft, called the spindle. Each joint consists of a 1:1 gear ratio internal–external gear pair. The tooth flanks and outer diameter of the external gear are crowned to allow for angular displacement between the two gears.
