Particularly known for her work in musicals on Broadway, she has been nicknamed the "Queen of Broadway" for her commanding stage presence, powerful mezzo-soprano, and reputation as one of the most influential stage actors of her generation.
She co-starred over a 20-year period with fellow "ghost singers" India Adams, Betty Wand [22] and Jo Ann Greer [23] in the musical revue Hollywood's Secret Singing Stars. A two-CD retrospective of her recordings entitled "There's a Man in My Life" was released in 2016 by Fresh Sound Records. [24] [25]
