I believe that the "L" e.g. in "LR6" etc is the chemistry type definition within the IEC standard, and not part of the cell size definition. That is, the IEC size code for an "AA" battery (for example) is "R6" rather than "LR6" - the "L" meaning manganese-alkaline.
