William O'Neal (April 9, 1949 – January 15, 1990) was an American FBI informant in Chicago, Illinois, where he infiltrated the local Black Panther Party (BPP). He is known for being the catalyst for the 1969 police/FBI assassination of Fred Hampton , head of the Illinois BPP.
William Joseph O'Neil was born on March 25, 1933, in Oklahoma City. [1] When he was 14, he moved to Dallas , [ 2 ] where he later graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School . [ 3 ] He studied business at Southern Methodist University , received a bachelor's degree in 1955 and served in the United States Air Force .
