Grove Township is a township in Shelby County, Iowa. There are a 51 people [ when? ] and 1.4 people per square mile in Grove Township. The total area is 35.9 square miles.
Early settling in Shelby County began in 1848 in Galland's Grove. [3] On February 4, 1855, Shelbyville was designated the county seat. In April 1859, the seat was moved to Harlan. One year later the first courthouse was erected and a second courthouse was constructed in 1875.

Council Bluffs was founded in the late 1840s as Kanesville by Mormons. When Brigham Young called all people of the faith outside of Utah to Salt Lake City in 1852, the community ceased to be majority Mormon. It was renamed Council Bluffs in 1853. The buildings here are among the earliest extant commercial buildings in the city. [2]
Iowa Highway 37 – cuts the SW corner of county, running SE from Monona County to Harrison County. Iowa Highway 39 – runs north and ENE from Denison to Kiron, then into Ida and Sac Counties. Iowa Highway 141 – enters SE part of county at Aspinwall, runs west to intersection with US Highway 59, two miles above the county's south line. [6]
