Prince Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin (pre-reform Russian: князь Левъ Николаевичъ Мышкинъ; post-reform Russian: князь Лев Николаевич Мышкин, romanized: knyazʹ Lev Nikoláyevich Mýshkin) is the main protagonist of Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1869 novel The Idiot.

The character of Prince Myshkin was originally intended to be an embodiment of this "lofty (Russian) Christian idea". [12] With the character's immersion in the increasingly materialistic and atheistic world of late 19th century Russia, the idea is constantly being elaborated, tested in every scene and against every other character.
Years later, the prince learns that a man bogatyr appeared on an island and decides to fight him, so he takes with him an army of 40 soldiers and marches to the island. The bogatyr defeats the prince's army and takes him prisoner. The prince then asks the bogatyr his story, and the young man tells him about his and his mother's maritime journey.
The story was filmed as König Drosselbart (1954), directed by Herbert B. Fredersdorf. The story was adapted in 1969 as the Soviet cartoon The Capricious Princess (Капризная принцесса). The tale is retold in an episode of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics under the title King Grizzlebeard. In this version, the princess' name is Elena.
