The Donets is the fourth-longest river in Ukraine, and the largest in eastern Ukraine, where it is an important source of fresh water. It gives its name to the Donets Basin, known commonly as the Donbas, an important coal-mining and industrial region in Ukraine.

Vovcha (Ukrainian: Вовча, Russian: Волчья) is an 88 km (55 mi) long left tributary of the Donets in the Belgorod Oblast of Russia and Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine. Its source is in Belgorod Oblast, near the Russian-Ukrainian border, near the village of Volchya Alexandrovka. [2] It flows in a predominantly westerly direction.
