In 1725 he married Elizabeth Blount, a daughter of Edward Blount of Blagdon in the parish of Paignton in Devon, 3rd son of George Blount, 2nd Baronet, of Sodington Hall in the parish of Mamble in Worcestershire, by his wife Annabella Guise, a daughter of Sir John Guise, 2nd Baronet of Elmore, Gloucestershire.
He was the eldest son of Charles Clifford, 6th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, and the Hon. Eleanor Mary Arundell, a daughter of Henry Arundell, 8th Baron Arundell of Wardour. [1] He was educated at the Roman Catholic college of Stonyhurst, and in 1814 attended Cardinal Consalvi to the Congress of Vienna. [2]
He is the first son of the late Colonel The Right Hon. Lewis Hugh Clifford, 13th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, and The Honourable Katharine Vavasseur Fisher. Through his mother he is a great-grandson of Admiral of the Fleet John Fisher, 1st Baron Fisher. He was educated at Downside School. [1]
