The Edwin B. Stimpson Company was founded in 1852 and subsequently opened a 1,500 square foot factory in Lower Manhattan. The site of the original Edwin B. Stimpson Company office is now the site of Pace University. On 15 July 1907, the company became incorporated as the Edwin B. Stimpson Company in alignment with New York state law.
William Stimpson (February 14, 1832 – May 26, 1872) was an American scientist. [1] He was interested particularly in marine biology. Stimpson became an important early contributor to the work of the Smithsonian Institution and later, director of the Chicago Academy of Sciences .
At the end of the war Stimpson was the Sundowners' top ace with 16 victories, receiving the Navy Cross, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and three Air Medals. Released from active duty in October 1945, Stimpson participated in the naval reserve program until 1956. He settled in the San Diego area, having married into the hotel business.
The United States's Grommet nuclear test series [1] was a group of 34 nuclear tests conducted in 1971–1972. These tests [ note 1 ] followed the Operation Emery series and preceded the Operation Toggle series.
Stimson died at his estate Highhold in Huntington, New York. [64] He is buried in the adjacent town of Laurel Hollow , in the cemetery of St. John's Church. [ 65 ] [ 66 ] He was the last surviving member of William Howard Taft 's cabinet.
