A total of 18,253 MD tractors were produced. In addition, IH produced the Farmall Super M from 1952 to 1954. The Super M featured a larger engine displacement than the standard M, at 264 cu in (4,330 cc). Variations of the Super M, the Super MD (a diesel version of the Super M) and the Super MTA (with a torque amplifier), were produced
The Farmall Super MD, Super M-TA Diesel, 400 Diesel, and 450 Diesel used the same IHC gasoline-start engine design as the MD, but with larger displacement (more cubic inches). The first Farmall tractor with a direct-start diesel was the model 350, which appeared in 1956. The 350 could also be ordered with a gasoline or LP-gas engine.
The McCormick-Deering W-6 was the W-series version of the Farmall M, using the M's C248 engine, again in gasoline, distillate or kerosene versions. The BM was a Farmall M, usually equipped with a wide front axle rather than the narrow wheels popular in North America. The BMD diesel-engined version was offered beginning in 1952. [2] Super BM and BMD models followed. In 1953, 53 BMD tractors were painted gold instead of red to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. [3] [4]
Starting in 1952 the Farmall Super FC was produced with French parts and an American-made motor. The Farmall FC-N followed, with a diesel engine. By 1953 all components were being produced in France, and the Farmall Super FC-C (carbureted gasoline), Farmall FC-E (essence distillate), and Farmall Super FC-D diesel were being produced with wide and narrow front axles and an overall-narrow ...
