The Battleship puzzle (sometimes called Bimaru, Yubotu, Solitaire Battleships or Battleship Solitaire) is a logic puzzle based on the Battleship guessing game. It and its variants have appeared in several puzzle contests, including the World Puzzle Championship , [ 1 ] and puzzle magazines, such as Games magazine.
The game of Battleship is thought to have its origins in the French game L'Attaque played during World War I, although parallels have also been drawn to E. I. Horsman's 1890 game Basilinda, [1] and the game is said to have been played by Russian officers before World War I. [3] In 1907 the game playing was mentioned in the diary of Russian poet Ryurik Ivnev. [4]

In arcade, the player controls the Battleship, travelling in 3D maps and destroying opposing ships, turrets, and planes as the player attempts to reach the exit. As the Battleship, the player can fire in four directions, call in a whale to extinguish a fire, and take advantage of various power-ups found throughout the game's 20 maps.
Battleships is the international title of a video game based on the classic board game. The object is to sink the opponent's entire fleet (six ships) without him sinking the player's fleet first. The 1978 edition has some similarities to the game Battleship, with both players having a hidden map-board and calling out coordinates to locate their opponent.The British player sets up a large number of Royal Navy vessels and search aircraft on their map-board before game play begins, while the German player places the Bismarck and the Prince Eugen on their mapboard.
