Cambrian College was founded as a trade school in 1967, during the formation of Ontario's college s ystem. It was originally established with campuses in Sudbury, North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie ; the North Bay and Sault campuses became the independent Canadore College and Sault College in 1972 and 1973, respectively.

The Sudbury Canadians were a women's soccer team based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.The team played its home games in Cambrian College.They played only 3 seasons in the W-League.
Cambrian Academy serves students in Grades 6-12. Although described as an Advanced Middle School and College Preparatory High School, it is organized as a continuum spanning Grades 6-12. Students are placed in classes based on ability rather than age, so the grade-level distinction is less important than the individual student's path to college.
The college works in partnership with over 1000 employers including Airbus, JCB, Kelloggs, Kronospan, Moneypenny, UPM Shotton Paper and Village Bakery.
