The Emporia Micropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in Kansas, anchored by the city of Emporia. As of the 2000 census , the μSA had a population of 38,965 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 36,399).

Lyon County comprises the Emporia, KS Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the census [14] of 2000, there were 35,935 people, 13,691 households, and 8,639 families residing in the county. The population density was 42 inhabitants per square mile (16/km 2). There were 14,757 housing units at an average density of 17 per square mile (6.6/km 2).
The district covers about 18 city blocks. Its 67 acres (27 ha) listed area included 115 contributing buildings and 52 non-contributing buildings. Two already-listed resources were included. [2] It includes a number of two- and three-story Italianate-style buildings from the 1860s, built soon after Emporia was founded in 1857. [2]
Emporia is in the Topeka, Kansas television market. [13] KETM-LP, a defunct translator station of Fox affiliate KTMJ-CD in Topeka, was licensed to Emporia and broadcast on analog channel 17. [ 14 ] [ 15 ]
