Damon urges Stefan to go get the cure for Elena, uncaring that there is only enough for one because he wants it for the girl he loves. After Stefan leaves Rebekah comments that Damon did something selfless and remarks that he will always love Elena. An exhausted Damon admits that he cannot control everything and is tired.
Elena, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) try to have a normal day after everything that happened but Stefan comes to tell Elena about Damon and that he needs to go and find Klaus for the cure. In the meantime, Damon starts having illusions because of the werewolf bite.
But Stefan convinces her to stay so she can get the cure and be a human as she wished for. Stefan gets Silas’ headstone, and Elena is mad that Stefan did not dagger Rebekah, but rather trusting that Rebekah is on their side. Stefan and Damon gets into argument when Damon reveals that Stefan slept with Rebekah.
While Elena pretends to be Katherine with Elijah, Rebekah keeps an eye on Katherine. Soon, Stefan and Damon arrive. Rebekah and Damon go with Katherine to her house to get the cure. While Rebekah searches the house, Damon finds that the cure is contained in a fish tank filled with vervain water.
Damon is with Elena and she takes the cure on the porch, telling him she loves him. As human, Alaric's compulsion is gone and she gains her memories back. Stefan then calls Damon to let him know that Lily is free and now would be a bad time to take the cure. As he's telling Damon this, Lily snaps his neck, leaving Elena shocked.
Klaus tells Stefan he will trade a vial of his blood if Stefan becomes a ripper again and leaves Mystic Falls with him. After Stefan drinks human blood, Klaus gives Katherine the cure for Damon. Sheriff Forbes, trying to kill Damon, accidentally frees him from his cell. She tracks Damon down but she misses her shot and kills Jeremy instead.
Damon and Elena talk on the phone and Elena says that sire bond or not, she loves him. Damon tells her to meet him at the cabin. Rebekah comes to Stefan saying that she still wants the cure so she can use it on Klaus, and Stefan agrees to help her. Klaus calls Jeremy, Matt and Damon to a bar, full of people transforming into vampires.
Meanwhile, Professor Shane is hosting an exhibition at the school with Bonnie's help. Damon and Bonnie turn to him for answers. He tells them that Elena's hallucinations are due to a witch's curse and the only cure is for a potential hunter to make his first kill and pass along the last hunter's powers.
