    www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/50cal-flintlock-velocity-tests.38417

Interesting. I tested my new flintlock rifle for velocity and accuracy last week. I have a 36" Green mountain barrel with a 1/70 twist. Using a .490 ball with pillow ticking and Leigh Valley lube I got about 250 fps more velocity with the 3F loads. I got about the same difference (120-140) between 3F and 2F as you did. I was also using Goex.

  5. Most accurate flintlock rifle caliber? - The Muzzleloading Forum

    www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/most-accurate-flintlock-rifle-caliber.88191

This was the pinnacle of the muzzleloading rifle. Reproductions of this rifle have been produced in recent years along with molds for it's peculiar bullet. Era scopes are available too but rifle scope and mold will cost into the thousands of dollars. Probably as much or more than a full house custom made flintlock longrifle.

There, a sling is a necessity due to the weight of the rifle and have to carry a possible sack too. All the years I carried a 270 pump it was with A sling, before I got old and went muzzleloader style. The nearest rendezvous to me is at least 100 miles or more in any direction.

Every so often we want to know just what methods early users of flintlock rifles were using. Recently one of the members of my gun club had some issues of the "American Rifleman" from 1935. In the September 1935 issue was an article on handling the flintlock rifle by an author who had some experience.

  8. Jukar Flintlock rifle. - The Muzzleloading Forum

    www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/jukar-flintlock-rifle.128612

I purchased this rifle at a gun show years ago and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it. The only marking on the barrel is Jukar Spain 45 cal. It seems to be someone's build of a kit going by the finish but I was wondering if these were ever sold as finished rifles or were they strictly kit guns.

Hello All, My 11 year old niece want's to try shooting my 50 cal, flintlock with me. Gotta love this kid  I usually shoot target at 50yds with, 50gr 3f, .490/.15 ball/patch combo. This works fine for me, but, then again, I'm 6ft tall at 200+ lbs. I want to show her how to load and fire the rifle at 25yards.

IMHO, the schools of rifle making in Va are so diverse that it is almost impossible to pin down what an average Virginia rifle, early or otherwise, might look like. IMHO, what the semicusom builders call a Virginia rifle is nothing more than a generic rifle with some hardware that resembles something that might have been on a Virginia rifle.
