Doncaster Royal Infirmary started life as the Doncaster Dispensary on French Gate (now Greyfriars Road) in 1792: the original two-storey building was erected at the cost of £665. [3] [4] This became the Doncaster General Infirmary and Dispensary in 1868 with 23 beds and the Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Dispensary in 1906. [5]

City Hospital, Edinburgh, 1988. In 1952 a thoracic surgery unit was established with Mr Andrew Logan as lead surgeon, initially to treat patients with surgically amenable pulmonary tuberculosis. It expanded to become the regional unit for all thoracic surgery, with cardiac surgery being largely performed at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. [5]
The building, which was designed by Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall, formed part of the first phase of the intended re-development of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh [a] and was built between 1976 [2] and 1981. [3] The Edinburgh Dental Institute moved to the building from Chambers Street in 1997. [3]
