In 1780, the Spanish explorer-priest Junípero Serra named the lake La Laguna de Diablo (English: Devil's Lake), because some who lived nearby believed that within it dwelt a pet of the devil, which later came to be known as the Elizabeth Lake Monster. [4] The creature is said to resemble a dragon, with leathery wings and scaly skin.
The campground area is located at the southwest shore of Devils Lake in Lincoln City, and the day use area is on the south shore. The park provides kayaks for those participating in summer guided kayak wildlife tours. [2] Activities include camping (RV, tent, yurt, and biker), boat, water skiing, swimming, and personal watercraft. [2]
Devil's Doorway is a main attraction in Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin. [1] The park is 9,217 acres (3,730 ha) and Devil's Lake is 360 acres (150 ha). [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The formation, more than 31 ft (9.4 m) high, is named for its resemblance to a doorway or a stone arch, with two separate columns of rock connected by other rocks at the top.

Grahams Island State Park is a public recreation area in North Dakota occupying 959 acres (388 ha) on the eastern flank of Grahams Island in Devils Lake.At one time there were four recreational units on the lake, collectively known as Devils Lake State Parks, but rising water caused three units to be closed, leaving only Grahams Island State Park in operation.
