Nutrition is important in all sports. Sports nutrition is the study and practice of nutrition and diet with regards to improving anyone's athletic performance. Nutrition is an important part of many sports training regimens, being popular in strength sports (such as weightlifting and bodybuilding) and endurance sports (e.g. cycling, running, swimming, rowing).
Athletics is a term encompassing the human competitive sports and games requiring physical skill, and the systems of training that prepare athletes for competitive performance. [1] [2] Athletic sports or contests are competitions which are primarily based on human physical competition, demanding the qualities of stamina, fitness, and skill.
Physical fitness is a state of health and well-being and, more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations, and daily activities. Physical fitness is generally achieved through proper nutrition, [1] moderate-vigorous physical exercise, [2] and sufficient rest along with a formal recovery plan. [3]
Jeukendrup has authored several books on sports nutrition and over 200 peer reviewed journal articles on exercise and sports nutrition. [ 5 ] His research interests include metabolic responses to exercise, regulation of carbohydrate and fat metabolism, sports nutrition, gastrointestinal complaints during exercise, training and over-training.
Colgan is a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, the British Society for Nutritional Medicine, and the International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionists. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. [2] [3]

He is author of the book ‘The Energy Plan’ (Penguin Random House) [10] and narrator of the audio book, [11] translating sports nutrition from the elite sport to the general public. [12]
Louise Mary Burke, OAM is an Australian sports dietitian, academic and author. She was the head of sports nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) throughout its existence from 1990 to 2018 and in 2018 was appointed Chief of AIS Nutrition Strategy.
