Lost in Space is an American science fiction television series created and produced by Irwin Allen, which originally aired between 1965 and 1968 on CBS. [1] Lightly dramatic, sometimes comedic in tone, the series was inspired by the 1812 Johann David Wyss novel The Swiss Family Robinson.
All episodes of Lost in Space were remastered and released on a Blu-ray disc set on September 15, 2015 (the 50th anniversary of the premiere on the CBS TV Network). On February 5, 2019, all episodes (cropped to 16:9 widescreen from the Blu-ray masters) were re-released on a DVD disc set.
An animated special of Lost in Space was produced in 1973. Vastly different from the original series, the special only retained the characters of Dr. Smith (voiced by Jonathan Harris) and the Robot, now called "Robon" and bearing a distinctly purple paint job.
The special aired the pilot episodes of many sci-fi series including the Robot-less and Dr. Smith-less pilot of "Lost in Space" titled "No Place to Hide." The pilot was released as part of a VHS box set, Lost in Space: The Collector's Edition, in February 1995. [7]
