The RITA Award, presented by the Romance Writers of America (RWA) from 1990 to 2019, was the most prominent award for English-language romance fiction. Estrada was a founding member and the first president of the Romance Writers of America (RWA). Their signature award from 1990 to 2019, the RITA, which is the highest award of excellence given in the genre of romantic fiction, was named for her. [2] The RWA also awarded Estrada their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. [3]
She has won three Romance Writers of America RITA Awards,–the highest award given to romance novelists– in 1992, 1995, and 2006. Her third win, for The Texan's Reward , led to her immediate induction into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. [ 5 ]
