At Interstate 35 (I-35), US-75 becomes a two-lane expressway again, passing east of Melvern Lake. About 15 miles south of Topeka, the highway becomes a four lane freeway. US-75 crosses the Kansas Turnpike without any direct access and drivers must use I-470 to access the turnpike. US 75 runs around the main part of the city along I-470 and I-70.

There is no direct access to the Kansas Turnpike from US 75, but the highway joins with I-470 less than one mile (1.6 km) from I-470's interchange with the turnpike. US 75 and I-470 run together along the west side of Topeka to I-70. US 75 turns east along I-70 for about three miles (4.8 km) before exiting northbound as a freeway.
The highway began at the Kansas Youth Center and ran eastward to US-40, US-75 Alt. and K-4, which ran concurrent at the time of decommissioning but is now just US-24. K-172 was assigned in an August 28, 1957, resolution, [ 104 ] and the Kansas Department of Transportation removed it from the state highway system between 1978 and 1979.
