The N1 or Dhaka–কুমিল্লা–Chittagong Highway is the main transportation artery of Bangladesh, connecting the capital city of Dhaka and the southern port city of Chittagong. [citation needed] Approximately 465 kilometres (289 miles) in length, the highway starts at Jatrabari in Dhaka and ends at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.
Additionally, kilometre signs are installed at intervals of 500 metres (1,600 ft) indicating the distance from the start of the motorway. Signs are generally bilingual in all parts of Wales (English/ Welsh or Welsh/English), and similar signs are beginning to be seen in parts of the Scottish Highlands ( Scottish Gaelic /English).

[ 7 ] On 20 March 2024, the Karwan Bazar ramp of the expressway in front of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) has been opened for transport movement.
In 2005, a proposal involving development for project of Purbachal was passed. In that proposal an eight-lane expressway was mentioned. But Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) started the expressway project with a four-lane road in 2013 because of fund shortage.
