One point of correction, you need to round up to the next multiple of 5 hp. Like for my boat, the actual rating based on the formula is 33hp. But I would round up to 35hp which my boat is actually rated for based on the USCG tag. In terms of hp rating, I believe pre-mid eighties hp was measured at the shaft and thereafter was measured at the prop.

A lighter boat is faster. So a well-built aluminum boat is faster, and also stronger than fiberglass. 10 times stronger than fiberglass - Don't pin me on that number, but aluminum is stronger than fiberglass. Fiberglass tends to crack when under stress. In a collision, aluminum will probably just dent.

12 Ft Jon Boat Float Pods. Check out this YouTube Float Pod video from Anthony Jones. Float pods on a 1232 are needed in my opinion, and these look legit. Aug 6, 2023. #2. I use a wire brush. inside and out. Nothing fast about it but I do not have to worry about sanding a already thin skin hull. A hole or crack is one sanding disc away. Nothing wrong with sanding plenty do it I just prefer not to. Nothing about working on an old aluminum hull boat is quickly done.

Member. This is my first jet boat. Have had a few suggestion on the size of motor I need and they were all quite different. I have a 16 foot welded aluminum tunnel hull. It has 1/8” sides, 1/4” bottom. 62” wide at the bottom and 77” beam. Super basic boat, just plywood floors and a bench seat at the bow. I want the boat for hunting ...

But for me thats not how i want my boat. Things to consider when I build them is, like I have said 1) transom angle 2) side of hull angle) 3) motor (with or without a whale tail ) swing at full left and right turn colliding with pod. 4) general size.

Remember Thompson’s water seal and alike doesn’t play well with aluminum. If you don’t have some type of insulation between the treated wood decking and the aluminum the aluminum is going to degradate. Aluminum has a much longer usable lifespan for decking but just like everything else it will not last forever.
